Research Projects
Drug use can alter fundamental processes, such as cognition and motivation, to produce pathological behaviors in some individuals. We aim to understand how neural circuits orchestrate these fundamental behaviors, identify how drugs act on these circuits, and link changes in neural activity with behavior.
Approach and Techniques
Our approach is driven by scientific questions, and the techniques that we use depend on the inquiry at hand. Currently, this includes developing behavioral procedures to model maladaptive decision making in rodents, and leveraging pharmacology, analytical chemistry, and optical tools to define the neurobiological basis of these behaviors at the level of receptors, synapses and brain-wide circuits.
